LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — James Lester Ledington, 94 of Hamilton, Ohio passed away at Golden Years Health Care on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at 2:07 p.m.

He was born in Laurel County, Ky., Aug. 30, 1915 the son of John and Nannie (Weaver) Ledington. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He was employed as a crane operator at Fisher Body for 25 years, retiring in 1979. Ledington was a member of the Talawanda Baptist Church and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and craftsman.

On Nov. 12, 1938 in Covington, Ky. he was married to Inez Mullins and she preceded him in death in 2000.

He is survived by his nieces, Nevada Cox of Hamilton, Ohio and Ruth Provence of Jonesville, Va.; two nephews, David Cox of Hamilton, Ohio and Fred Ledington of Connersville, Ind.; two special friends, Jim Edwards of Dayton, Ohio and Jim Roark of Oxford, Ohio; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Charlie, Chester, Homer, Virgil, Arthur, Clyde, Elmer, and two sisters, Verlie Cobb and Robin Ledington.

Funeral service was at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Timothy Suter officiating.

Burial followed in Butler County Memorial Park.

First Day at School

This year was the first year that my youngest grandson started attending school. He is four years old and is in a preschool program four days a week. This means he gets to ride the school bus, pack a lunch, and bring home homework just like the older kids, .


Like most little guys he was a little scared in the days leading up to the first day and got a little clingy, but when the school bus pulled up in front of his house he got on the bus and kissed his mom good bye and went off to his first day of school. Now he has no fear of separation and is adjusting to his new school routine just fine, maybe better than his mom is, she is missing her baby.

Hi, my name is Janet Ledington and I am the daughter of Philip and Joyce Ledington. I have 3 brothers Greg, Tim, and Ron Ledington. As a child we were all very close to our cousins Joe, Sherry, Linda, and Tammy Ledington and at one point in time we all lived very close to each other. Great child hood memories....then my parents moved us to Florida where we have lived since 1972. My parents just recently moved to Somerset Kentucky. I am still living in Florida and am married to a really great guy named John. I have 4 boys and he has 3 girls so we are kinda like the Brady Bunch plus one...Life is pretty hectic at times but we have alot of fun.

I am planning a trip to Kentucky possibly in October and would love to get together with some of my "family". As you go thorough life you really do realize what a small world we live in...who knew hooking up with long lost cousins on facebook would bring me here!

My children are Kristen Nicole Ledington Johnson, 27 years old and 2 beautiful children, Caleb Johnson, 6 years old, and Ashlynn Johnson, 4 years old. Christopher Douglas Bowling, 24, 1 daughter, Alleyiah Bowling, 1 year old, and J. Phillip Bowling, 2 boys, Noah Bowling 6 years old and Owen who is 4 years old.

My father is Jerry Winston Ledington, and mother is Beverly Abner, also from Barbourville.

Old Fashioned Family Fun Night

Hello Ledington Clan,

Joe won 1st. and 2nd. place in the pie baking contest. I've been telling him for years that he had mad pie baking skills now here's the proof. He's not just a good woodworker, he has great kitchen skills too.

My first solo bike ride

The year was 1966, and I was five years old and we just moved from Blanchester, to Madisonville, in Cincinnati, Ohio so my dad, Elmer wouldn't have to drive the seventy miles round trip to work each night he was driving to his job at Alis Chambers in Norwood Ohio. This was the first time I lived in the city with all the city sounds and the hustle and bustle that went with it. Up till now we always lived in the country except for a short time we lived in the town of Blanchester which I guess was like a city but on a smaller scale.
The biggest adjustment for me as a boy was not having the run of the land, which I always had, even in Blanchester, but in Madisonville it just was to dangerous with the roads and all the strangers. We Had a nice back yard that ended in an alley that I was allowed to play in, and the family that lived up on the second floor of the house my family rented had kids that played out in the yard also, so I had another little girl my age to play with plus some older kids.
Summer was long confined in that yard with a rusty swing set that would tip over if I swung to high, which I did way to often for my mom's liking so she made my dad get rid of the swings, but they got me a kids pool to play in which help make summer go by a little faster the pool and my little red huffy bike I got for Christmas that I would ride up and down the side walk from morning til night was what kept me busy all summer. My older brother one day decided it was time I learned to ride without the training wheels and he took them off, at first I was scared and wouldn't even try to ride, so he just parked my bike on the porch and told me that if I didn't try to learn by the end of the week he was going to give my bike away. It took me about three days to get the courage to try to learn and I finally said I was ready, so he ran beside me pushing as I pedaled and when he let go of me and I went about ten feet and fell over, but I was so excited that I rode the scrape on my elbow didn't even matter, after a few more falls it was like magic I was riding my bike. my little feet was pumping the pedals up and down and the bike was all mine to command to go where ever I wanted and I knew even then at five years old that with them two wheels under me I was going to have some great adventures on my bike. My mom, dad and brother were all so happy and proud of me they snapped a picture of me on my bike and told me this is so one day you can show your grandkids the day you learned to ride your bike. Its been forty five years since then and bikes are still a part of my life and yesterday my grandson learn to ride his bike without his training wheels and his grandma, mom, and I took a picture of him on his bike and today going through some old photos I found, well you guessed it, my picture of me on my bike and we are almost in the same pose.
